Avid listens to their customers.
A few years ago Avid did something unprecedented in our industry that many editors may have forgotten about. They took their show on the road. It wasn't actually a road show as much as it was a chance for their top management to visit with post-houses, professional editors, indie film makers and user groups. They asked what Avid needed to fix and when they asked for honest feedback, they sure got it! What did Avid do with this information? They used Read More

Q: What are the latest trends you're seeing in production and post production?
A: The biggest trend in Post Production is the decision that many Apple Final Cut Pro editors are faced with, now that FCPX is available. Adobe and Avid are both offering special "switcher" or "crossgrade" promotions with discounts at 50% or more. We've seen great interest from all levels of customer’s especially po Read More

It's been five months since Thunderbolt technology arrived on the scene with the latest MacBook Pro refresh. At the time, not many devices were available to make use of the speedy new I/O connection. Since then, the new port has now appeared on new MacBook Airs, iMacs and Mac minis, and with that, the quantity of Thunderbolt-capable devices has improved as well! While some devices and accessories may not be available just yet, many should be arriving shortly. We highlight a handful that could he Read More

Adobe Premiere Pro has been back in the post-production public consciousness for quite a while. Now at version 5.5 it feels like Adobe began really pushing it when the Mercury Playback Engine was added in 5. I’ve been toying with it off and on for quite a while now but with the recent release of Final Cut Pro X I wanted to give it a real-world, client in the room test. In the end it was both very good, kinda bad … and a little bit ugly. Read More

I will summarize to the best of my ability, what I heard and experienced at the Avid Event held at the Warner Brothers studio, Stephen J. Ross Theatre, July 13, 2011. To the best of my ability because I didn’t take notes, didn’t tweet, and had three Heinekens. The evening started off with a video showing all the movies and TV shows that used Avid in their post. In the first release of Final Cut Pro X, the interaction with I/O devices such as the Matrox MXO2 products is different than with previous versions of Final Cut Pro when it comes to capturing, monitoring, and outputting video. Exporting to H.264 files from the new Compressor 4 using Matrox MAX-enabled MXO2 devices remains up to 5 times faster than software alone. Read More

Well here we are into the first official evening of Final Cut Pro X’s release out into the world. It’s been a busy day and a Twitter search will show a good bunch of love, a whole lot of hate and a little bit in-between. There were a blessed few who got advance copies and they’ve written some FCPX must read articles. If you want to try it yourself then $299 and the Mac Apps Store will get you a copy. I first want to answer the Burning Questions that I had just the other day. Read More
