In this article Walter Biscardi, Jr. tries out the new MC Color controller from Euphonix.
Apple Color has brought a powerful color enhancement tool to the masses much like Final Cut Pro did for editing when it was released. What was once possible with only a high end hardware based system, like daVinci, was now in the hands of anyone with $999 who purchases Final Cut Studio. What has finally started to appear on the landscape are reasonably priced hardware controllers that emulates the same

No, this isn’t the 5D workflow article that you’ve been waiting for. That’s still coming in another couple of weeks. In the meantime, I’ve started on another Canon 5D commercial. This time I’m cutting the project in Avid Media Composer instead of Final Cut Pro. There are a number of reasons, including some recent stability issues I’ve had with FCP. In addition, the creative treatment calls for some nice speed ramp effects. Avid’s FluidMotion is simply a much better slomo technology than anything

The delivery guy walked in the door just over a week ago with a box containing a sparking, new, fresh off the assembly line MC Color control surface from Euphonix. For those who aren’t familiar with this unit, it’s a brand new entry into the affordable (relatively speaking at $1,499) trackball based hardware support for Apple Color. The Euphonix unit has the Tangent Wave square in its sights with a similar price point and similar functionality. In fact it’s hard to talk about one without compari

"The Matrox MAX technology has revolutionized our workflow. Our camera crews typically would record to tape or FireStore drives using our Canon HV20/HV40, Sony PMW-EX1, and Panasonic HPX500 camcorders. They would then ship the tapes or drives back to our facility where staff would transfer the footage to Final Cut Server. It would take us a day just to see it, then another three or four hours to add all the metadata so the editors could get to work. Once the editing was done we would output from

Last night the Videoguys sponsored a very special event at the LIVA (Long Island Videographers Association) meeting. It was movie night and the movie was an incredible indy film called the “The Videoguys”. The movie is produced, written, shot and features local videographer Dan Brennan and his family.
The Video Guys movie was great. It’s about an Event Videographer, his team and the impact they have on weddings and that weddings have on them and his family. It’s a humorous look at the wo

With Apple’s announcement of the iPad there’s been tons of articles, tweets and blog posts about this upcoming piece of hardware. There’s also been tons of ink spilled about just how this little device could be useful in the filmmaking process as well, some right here on this site. I had decided not to write anything at all about the iPad since pretty much everything had already been said. But I got to thinking how this device might integrate more with the post-production side of the filmmaking

This month I’ll describe the round-trip procedures for moving active project files among the various apps in Final Cut Studio 2009. I’ll start in Final Cut Pro 7 and use the “Send To” command to go out to Soundtrack Pro 3 (STP), Motion 4, and Color 1.5. Then, I’ll explain the return trip to Final Cut Pro (FCP).

You have just purchased a brand new hard drive for your Mac. It could be an internal drive but most likely it is an external hard drive that has Firewire 400, Firewire 800, USB 2 or eSATA ports on the back for connectivity to your Mac. When you purchased the drive, the sales person told you that it was Mac compatible, just plug it in and go to work.
You can plug this new drive into your Mac and 'go to work', but this does not mean that the drive is setup in the best manner for the Mac.

As I followed Apples presentation on my favorite tech blogs, while watching folks reactions on Twitter (follow us) and Facebook (become a fan), I started thinking about how the iPad could impact content creation. Sure it’s a great delivery vehicle for video and multimedia, but could it be used to help us make content of the future? I’m 100% certain it could, but it may take a few generations of iPads to get there. So in an attempt to speed up the process, I’m putting out this wish list of applic

Peter Wiggins posted a Top Ten Wish List for FCP in 2010 over on his blog recently. Then in a tweet he asked: What is yours? Years ago I posted what could have been called my FCP wish list in two Editblog posts: Bottom 10 Final Cut Pro ...tips? and Bottom 10 FCP Tips ... revisited. They read just like a Final Cut Pro wishlist. So with those in mind here’s my Wish List for Final Cut Pro in 2010. Some are revisited right from the Botton 10 FCP Tips, some echo Peter’s. Everyone who has used FCP for
