Today, we pit arguably the two most popular motherboard vendors at a price point that will see a significant number of sales from consumers and enthusiasts alike – the ASUS P8P67 Pro and the Gigabyte P67A-UD4, which were both released during the Sandy Bridge week for $190. Hey, not only did I order and receive a great deal on the Pioneer BDR-206 12x Blu-ray writer from you, but I also found all the great articles and the forum that you have set up. I especially found the article on building a nice machine with the I-7 8 core processor a great source of information. I was impressed with your knowledge and dedication to doing it the right way. Very informative and helped me to order my new computer today. Read More

I just wanted to let everyone know that I've just updated our NLE systems (for Windows) recommendations page. If the time has come to upgrade your old or get a new NLE workstation, this article is a great place to start.

If you are upgrading to Adobe CS5, Avid MC5, Sony Vegas 10 or Grass Valley Edius 6 this is definitely a worthwhile read. Read More

Nearly any modern laptop or desktop computer has enough horsepower to run the leading graphics, editing or encoding applications. The right choice depends on your need for expandability, interconnectivity and/or performance with specific formats.

I do a lot of Apple Final Cut Pro editing, so I stick with Macs. This also equips me for the other possibilities, including Adobe CS5, Avid Media Composer 5, Media 100 or Autodesk Smoke for the Mac. If I opted to set up a Windows partition under B Read More

This is a great article and can save you big bucks. We recommend the new FERMI based GTX460 w/ 1GB DDR5 for outstanding Mercury performance for under $250!!

Adobe Premiere CS5 was release with the new Mercury Playback Engine (MPE) that can use a video card’s GPU to accelerate playback, effects and rendering. Adobe has only “certified” a few of the high end video cards from NVIDIA. (See Note 4 at the end of this article, About Adobe's Certified Video Cards) Read More

Are you ready for 64 bits? Like the American westward expansion, it's about opening up new vistas and wide open spaces - but for video editing tools - which have become cramped and slowed by the demands of working with more applications, using higher resolutions, and applying a ton more layers and streams. It's time to look at Microsoft Windows 7, which I'm doing in two phases. First, I'll upgrade an existing Windows XP installation and detail the experience and my first impression of Windows 7. Then, using a multiboot computer, I'll test the performance of Windows Vista against Windows 7, and if the stars align, perhaps even Windows XP. Read More

Since sometime in late 2008, Apple’s 17” and select 15” Macbook Pro models have included not one but two graphics processors, the nVidia 9400M and 9600M GT. It is my understanding that by default the laptop uses the integrated lower-wattage 9400M, which includes 256MB RAM and helps extend battery life. It will run the main laptop display and push an external display as well. The additional nVidia 9600M GT graphics option is actually a discrete internal PCI-E card featuring 512MB of RAM and offer Read More

There is the question as to why is Adobe announcing this now, so far in advance of anything? The answer is you my friends. We want to make sure that you're aware of where we're going and that if you have any thoughts about upgrading in the future, that you have the necessary time to get ready for it. In addition, if you're using CS4 and not using 64-bit now, you should run not walk to the store to upgrade your OS and memory. Read More

Today we took a major leap forward in our future development of Premiere Pro and AfterEffects. We announced that we would no longer support 32 bit OSes in future releases of Premiere Pro and After Effects. As many of you know, we are not new to the 64 bit arena, Photoshop CS4 is already native 64 bit on Windows and we have been running the last 3 versions of Premiere Pro and After Effects on 64 bit OSes.
