It's time to look at Microsoft Windows 7, which I'm doing in two phases. First, I'll upgrade an existing Windows XP installation and detail the experience and my first impression of Windows 7. Since sometime in late 2008, Apple’s 17” and select 15” Macbook Pro models have included not one but two graphics processors, the nVidia 9400M and 9600M GT. It is my understanding that by default the laptop uses the integrated lower-wattage 9400M, which includes 256MB RAM and helps extend battery life. It will run the main laptop display and push an external display as well. The additional nVidia 9600M GT graphics option is actually a discrete internal PCI-E card featuring 512MB of RAM and offer Read More

Today we took a major leap forward in our future development of Premiere Pro and AfterEffects. We announced that we would no longer support 32 bit OSes in future releases of Premiere Pro and After Effects. As many of you know, we are not new to the 64 bit arena, Photoshop CS4 is already native 64 bit on Windows and we have been running the last 3 versions of Premiere Pro and After Effects on 64 bit OSes. Overclocking can kill your CPU. It can corrupt your OS, melt your motherboard, and cause you to lose a month’s work or more. Despite those dire orange-alert warnings, however, overclocking has moved on from the Nerd’s Only Club to become practically a mainstream hobby in the last few years. Read More

I blogged on a tutorial from Event DV around editing workflows with AVCHD. In that same issue, contributor Jan Ozer wrote an article called CS4 at 64 that delves into the differences that he observed between Adobe applications and how they perform differently between 32bit Windows XP and 64bit Windows Vista. For me, it’s clear that 64 bit operating systems are becoming more mainstream - or at least among content creators. Read More
