I received my MXO2 a few months ago but have lacked the time/project/decks to be able to test it out. The best I could do was hook it up to my computer an HDTV and go "Yup, that outputs a GREAT image" and to my HD CRT and say, well, the same thing. Read More

Last Tuesday Apple announced new Mac Pro models based on Intel’s Nehalem architecture (at long last!). We got some things we’d been hoping for (Nehalem architecture, improved memory handing, MUCH faster GPUs, cleaner internal layout), and not some others some of us had been hoping for (Blu-ray burners, 10GigE networking, cookie dispenser). Read on for Mike’s breakdown of all the BTO options, what they mean, what they cost, and what Mike recommends in a new Mac Pro. Read More

I think we can safely say that the concept of a broadcast editing suite in a bag was well and truly proven with the help of the MXO2. The progress of technology is amazing and I’m sure the novelty value of being able to turn up at a broadcast job with just a computer bag will disappear as it becomes the norm. This box really does change things again. Once it was bigger, better. Now it is smaller, faster, cheaper. For a piece of broadcast equipment, this thing is small, light and cheap. Read More

The best part of the MXO2 is the price. I can’t think of another portable or desktop unit that delivers what it does for $1,595. There are more expensive options in the marketplace, and if you need real-time HD ProRes 4:2:2 capture in the field, the MXO2 may not be for you. But it meets my needs, not just in terms of price and features but, most importantly, in terms of its quality, stability and dependability. Read More

Last month, we compared Adobe Creative Suite 4 (CS4) performance on 32-bit and 64-bit Windows systems, finding that 64-bit proved superior in nearly all tests (see part 1 and part 2). This month, in our quest to identify the optimal CS4 configuration, we look at graphic chip manufacturer Nvidia’s Quadro CX technology—which, according to Nvidia’s website, “is the accelerator for Adobe Creative Suite 4—giving creative professionals the performance, tools, and reliability they need to maximize thei Read More

2008 was a tough year for the US economy and our industry has been affected. Back in April two industry stalwarts, Avid & Apple, announced that they would not be attending the 2008 NAB show. While both companies had a presence with dealer meetings and customer events, it definitely sent a shock wave through the industry. Companies were watching every dollar and that would soon affect new products as well. Read More
