Today, we pit arguably the two most popular motherboard vendors at a price point that will see a significant number of sales from consumers and enthusiasts alike – the ASUS P8P67 Pro and the Gigabyte P67A-UD4, which were both released during the Sandy Bridge week for $190. Forget all the marketing fluff; this is a showdown! Read More

For years we have been recommending NVIDIA Quadro professional graphics boards to our professional customers who demand the highest level of performance, reliability and stability. Quadro cards cost a bit more than your average gaming graphics card, but for professional content creators, the extra cost is often worth it. In a nut shell, many tech support issues we run into are graphics card related. While you may be able to save some bucks going with a gaming card, we feel confident that if you Read More

Nearly any modern laptop or desktop computer has enough horsepower to run the leading graphics, editing or encoding applications. The right choice depends on your need for expandability, interconnectivity and/or performance with specific formats.

I do a lot of Apple Final Cut Pro editing, so I stick with Macs. This also equips me for the other possibilities, including Adobe CS5, Avid Media Composer 5, Media 100 or Autodesk Smoke for the Mac. If I opted to set up a Windows partition under B Read More

When you think of Adobe's Creative Suite software, "inexpensive" is not the first word that comes to mind. Its flagship (and most famous) app, Photoshop, can cost from $699 to $999 to buy new—and that's just by itself. The collections of various apps (also bought new) run from $1,299 for the relatively modest Design Standard to $2,599 for the everything-and-the-kitchen-sink Master Collection. True, you can save hundreds of dollars if you're upgrading from previous versions. Read More

This is a great article and can save you big bucks. We recommend the new FERMI based GTX460 w/ 1GB DDR5 for outstanding Mercury performance for under $250!!

Adobe Premiere CS5 was release with the new Mercury Playback Engine (MPE) that can use a video card’s GPU to accelerate playback, effects and rendering. Adobe has only “certified” a few of the high end video cards from NVIDIA. (See Note 4 at the end of this article, About Adobe's Certified Video Cards) Read More

Today, 512 days after the last update, Apple introduced the new lineup of speed-bumped Mac Pros and further established their abandonment of the professional community. Now, I don’t say this to be inflammatory – far from it. As a professional user in the truest sense, I eat, sleep and breathe things like this. I work in an industry that simply requires the use of a Mac… no ifs, ands or buts. No Windows, no Linux, no hackintoshes, no excuses. To the millions that love their Macs, it’s an e Read More

Since the introduction of the Fermi architecture nearly a year ago, we have known that NVIDIA really designed the GPU from the ground up for their Quadro and Tesla lines of products. The Tesla products are mostly server-based and aimed at the HPC (high performance computing) areas while the Quadro line is targeted at those people responsible for creating all the content we see in the world. Whether that is the latest PC gaming titles, the movie you saw last weekend or even the late night news, Read More
